Modern Foreign Languages at Abbeydale Grange School

Key Stage 3

We offer French, Urdu or Spanish to Year 7 pupils. We are lucky that all 3 languages are taught by native speakers which brings an authentic flavour to the lessons.  In the first year, pupils learn how to talk and write about themselves and their families, their school life and free time.

In Year 8 pupils study, among other topics: body and health, fashion, television and food.
Year 8 pupils can also choose German as an additional language option.

In Year 9 pupils continue with their chosen languages.

Level Descriptors: There are level descriptors which describe what a student can do at each key stage and also within that stage.

Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 offers GCSE in Urdu, French, Spanish and German

Throughout the years, GCSE exams can also be taken, for example, in Arabic, Polish, Russian, Farsi, Bengali, Portuguese by native speakers of these languages.

In 2006, two students went to France on a work placement. They stayed with a French family for 10 days and hosted their French partner a few months later.  Both found the placement very
rewarding.

Photos of the Language workshop at Sheffield Hallam University. On the 18 of January, 9 pupils in E2 participated in a language workshop at SHU. They spend the day doing language activities and learning about the importance of languages in the world of work. They entered a competition with 4 other Sheffield school; they had to produce a poster and give a presentation IN FRENCH about Sheffield and got second prize! Well done Ewan, Amy, Nelson, Sophie, Rachel, Zulsar, Tom, Jack and Sophie.
