The Learning Support Department at Abbeydale Grange School

Basic Skills Workshop – open from 7.45 a.m.

A calm motivating environment that allows students to concentrate and address their specific learning needs.

Our aim is to raise standards for all pupils in literacy and as a result, across the curriculum.

  • Pupils are tested on entry and support is tailored to their individual needs.
  • Teaching is organised either in very small groups or on a one-to-one basis.
  • Our approach to reading is structured and systematic using progressive phonics and a graded reading scheme.

Successmaker and Lexia

All pupils can access Successmaker and Lexia which are individual computer learning programs enabling students to progress at their own speed.

Successmaker

Students are assessed and placed on the program at an appropriate level to work on Reading, Maths and Spelling. Discover English has been added to the program and is designed to support students with English and an Additional Language.

Lexia

Lexia is our state-of-the-art computer literacy program offering a broad range of learning activities from basic to advanced levels.  This new program has been networked around the school thus enabling more students of all abilities to access it.

Learning Support

Visits around the Workshop are welcomed.  Please telephone the school and speak to Mrs Barnes to arrange a suitable time.
