Action
Performance art began in the 1960s, and really got going in the 70s, as an alternative way of making art. It has close links to video art, which also started at the same time. Both originated as ways of making art that could not be bought or sold as a commodity.
Some pupils at Abbeydale Grange have been creating their own video-performance art with visiting artist Robin Close. At first none of us really knew what video-performance art was about, so Robin showed us some videos made by real artists. We started off with a couple of ideas. We worked in groups of two or three, though on the first day we were just getting to know the cameras and computers. We really got started making art on the second day.
After we had got sufficient footage we edited our work and showed it to the rest of the group. After this we went to get further inspiration form the Site Gallery in town. We saw a piece of installation art by Michael Graham called Ambivalent Processes (it was a work in progress).
We have created some really good art works that we are very proud of and will hopefully help us with our GCSEs in the near future. The artwork can be seen below.
