Garageband Masterclass

We were lucky enough to host a film sound-track master class in G1, funded by zapstudio.co.uk . Nigel Humberstone was our guest trainer; Nigel has over fifteen years experience as a recording artist and composer for the screen.

The training group consisted of around ten members of AGS staff, a guest teacher from Firth Park School and a group of ten students. The group were shown the basics of using the Garageband music programming software. We were then shown a recent advert without the soundtrack and asked to think of a suitable soundtrack for the piece. We were able to drag the visuals in to the Garageband workspace and edit the music accordingly. By the end of the session every group had produced their own original soundtrack for the advert; using pre-recorded samples, voice samples, sound effects and live instruments plugged straight in to the Macs. This was a fantastic session that really built up all of our skills in music recording and production.
